What is the difference between a DDS and DMD?The DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) and DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) are the same degrees. The difference is a matter of semantics. The majority of dental schools award the DDS degree; however, some award a DMD degree. The education and degrees are the same.
The sequence make no difference as long as you do a through job. Tooth brushing removes plaque from tooth surfaces, it can't do the entire job of removing plaque. Cleaning between the teeth daily with floss or other interdental clearners removed debris from between the teeth, where your toothbrush cannot reach.
Tooth decay is caused by plaque in your mouth reacting with sugary and starchy deposits from food. This reaction produces acid which damages enamel over time and weakens the tooth. Regular brushing, flossing and dental checkup can minimize tooth decay.
The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends brushing your teeth twice a day with an ADA accepted fluoride toothpaste. Your toothbrush should be replace every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
Hold the tooth by the crown and rinse off the root of the tooth with water. Do not scrub it or remove any attached tissue fragments. If possible, gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If that is not possible, put the tooth in a cup of milk and get to the dentist as quickly as possible.
Some waring signs of Gum (periodontal) disease are:
- Bleeding gums
- Persistent bad breath
- Permanent teeth are loose or separating
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Gums have pulled away from the teeth
- Brush your teeth twice a day
- Clean between your teeth every day
- Eat a balanced diet
- Visit your dentist regularly
